This post is part of my ongoing series of writing down my thoughts on the Bible passages I read each day. Some days I hope to have great insight that the Lord gives me, and many days, I will likely struggle through the text and not know what to write down based on what I read. My hope and prayer is that as I make this a habit, just as I did daily writing for so long, that I will improve on my ability to read and understand the passages I’m reading. Please keep in mind that many of these posts may be published late at night or with little time studying and simply be my first thoughts after reading. This is in no way a commentary that one should use to discern the Bible, but my own personal thoughts.

Humble beginnings.

It’s interesting reading the story of Saul before he came king knowing how he turned out. He has this attitude when you first see him in scripture of “How could you choose me? I’m so small and my tribe so humble.” It makes you wonder if this was a sincere humility thing that ended up changing when he had more power given to him, or if he was never truly was actually humble.

Since I already know the story, it kind of feels like going back and watching a TV show knowing that a character that you kind of like is going to turn into someone that you hate. You start to pick out all the things you don’t like really early on, even when he’s doing good things.

Power is a dangerous thing. Almost to the point that I hope I never have it because I don’t trust what I would do if I had so much.
