This post is part of my ongoing series of writing down my thoughts on the Bible passages I read each day. Some days I hope to have great insight that the Lord gives me, and many days, I will likely struggle through the text and not know what to write down based on what I read. My hope and prayer is that as I make this a habit, just as I did daily writing for so long, that I will improve on my ability to read and understand the passages I’m reading. Please keep in mind that many of these posts may be published late at night or with little time studying and simply be my first thoughts after reading. This is in no way a commentary that one should use to discern the Bible, but my own personal thoughts.

If someone were to pick up the Bible and read this chapter, they would likely not read another. Or they would be so lost that they felt like they needed to go back to the beginning to understand what’s happening.

One of the hard things about the Bible is that there is so much going on throughout that you have different writers with different styles writing at the same time in history from two different perspectives.

Reading through the book of Isaiah, which is a prophetic book, can be quite daunting. I myself, who have read through the Bible multiple times and studied parts of it in-depth (though still extremely far from an expert) am struggling to understand all that is happening. I know the general history of what’s happening at this time and where else in the Bible it fits, but it’s not an exact science, and the way Isaiah writes is very…prophetic. It just is not how one would normally talk now.

People now days are often more comfortable reading the New Testament because it is written more how we talk now. It’s written as a letter to us. But to read only the new testament is to do ourselves a disservice. There is so much rich truth in books like Isaiah, and even parts that prophecy the things we see later in future books. It’s such a good thing to study and understand.

I read through Isaiah 21 today, but I’ll be completely honest and tell you right now that I felt like it went in one eye and out the other. I can hardly piece together what’s happening. My goal is to get up earlier tomorrow so that I can put some time into studying the passage and we shall see where I get.

Isaiah 22, here we go!
