This post is part of my ongoing series of writing down my thoughts on the Bible passages I read each day. Some days I hope to have great insight that the Lord gives me, and many days, I will likely struggle through the text and not know what to write down based on what I read. My hope and prayer is that as I make this a habit, just as I did daily writing for so long, and that I will improve on my ability to read and understand the passages I’m reading. Please keep in mind that many of these posts may be published late at night or with little time studying and simply be my first thoughts after reading. This is in no way a commentary that one should use to discern the Bible, but my own personal thoughts.

As I read through the beginning chapters of Genesis again today, something rushed out at me that I’ve heard many people talk about before. In Genesis 1:16, God is talking about his fourth day of creation in which he creates the different things in our atmosphere that give us light. He talks about the “great lights.” The greater light for the day and the lesser light for the night.

In this passage, right at the very end, after it talks about him creating what we assume to be the sun and the moon, he says: …” and the stars”.

We, thousands of years later, now know the extent of these stars and galaxies he created, but the way he describes them is simply as “and the stars”. As if these were nothing to Him. He literally spoke them into existence.

When we doubt God or the things that he can do, we’d do well to come back to this passage of creation and realize just how small we are and how infinite God’s power is. Let’s not doubt what God can do.
