If you were an alien, how would you know how to fit in with other humans. Culture is a huge part of life in America. Can you fit in with the culture?
One of the most popular things to run away from culture is to like music that NO ONE else likes. Anything that’s mainstream music it’s not cool to like. You need to have the most unique music tastes. Find the coolest random bands that no one’s ever heard of.
However, if you do things that are different from the culture in other areas, you might be completely rejected. What things are things that are okay to go against culture and what things should you follow it?
As I was in church this morning, we talked about the idea that the rest of the world likes to follow after whatever the culture is doing, but we as Christians should not be chasing after culture, we should be chasing after the one truth that we know. God’s revealed word through scripture.
Culture is constantly chasing its tail. Why do you think styles that were around in the 70s and 80s are starting to come back in style. It’s a pendulum swing. Culture swings hard one way then it swings hard the other way. The church in the past seems to swing right along with whatever the culture does, but what if it didn’t. What if when the culture changed, the church continued being the open arms of Jesus to their communities. Why are we as Christians chasing after something that’s chasing after its own tail?
Let’s take a lesson from 1 Corinthians and stop taking after the things of the world and go full-heartedly toward Christ.
