Being competitive will get you far in life. Give you the ability to work hard on something, even if it gets extremely difficult. People who are competitive, will often be better than others at things, not because they’re more talented, but because they want to win so badly, they put the work in to get better.

Being competitive certainly has its pros in life. However, it is not always a good thing and can be a huge blocker in some friendships. Especially when you let your competitive nature get in the way of your relationships with others.

I’ve grown better than I used to be. All I used to care about was winning and it didn’t matter who i hurt along the way to do it. I was going to get it done. As I grew up, I realized that it really sucked to get mad at people over something like a game. My desire to win didn’t go down, but my desire to not cause strife in friendships went up, and it in some ways balanced out. I still at times can battle letting the competitive nature win out instead of seeking fully after friendship and having some competition along the way.

If you ever find yourself putting a game in front of a relationship with someone else, you need to evaluate what you are sacrificing to feel good about winning.

It’s good to strive for first, but not when it becomes an idol.
