Fasting originally started out as a religious activity. Fasting in order to focus on God or devote your thoughts and mind to him. Giving up something to rely on something bigger. Now, all kinds of people fast for all kinds of reasons. Why? What makes food so special and make such a big impact on our lives?

This isn’t going to be an in depth blog post about food, but simply a question for us to consider. When we fast, whether for health reasons, religious reasons, weight loss, food restrictions, etc. Why do we count food as such an important aspect of our lives? Are there other things in our life that we carry with so much weight? Things that if we went a day without we might physically hurt?

If there are other things like that, you might consider how a fast from those things might be just as, if not more, healthy than fasting from food.
