The more I hear about the virus taking over the world, the less it seems like people care and more like people are obsessed with it.

Everyone has their different reasons. Some are obsessed because they’re fearful. Some are obsessed because they want to know what others are doing. Even some seem to be obsessed with it because they are obsessed with numbers and breaking things.

The tracking of this virus has been insane to me. The daily count of each country going up each day. The desire to get more and more people tested. I understand there are legitimate reasons for these things, but goodness, it seems like there are a mighty bit of more productive things that we could talk about than the numbers of how many have been affected and how many have died.

This virus isn’t about numbers or about how many records it breaks with those numbers. When it boils down to it, this virus, and the reason we should care is about human life. About humans created in God’s image, having never known him going out of this world.

Why are the numbers so important? I say it as I see both sides. I see the need for letting people know how many this has affected and trying to get people to take it seriously, but it also seems it’s simply feeding the desire people have for numbers and statistics.

When people say the number of fatalities and deaths in WW2, and they start talking in the millions and millions of lives, for some reason that doesn’t completely shock us. That’s because we’re so used to it. We’re so used to hearing it and everyone talking about it that the actual human life behind that number doesn’t seem to mean much to us anymore.

Will we not turn into the same thing if we can’t stop talking about the numbers and that stats now? Because soon, if they haven’t already, they are going to see 2020 as yet another history stat book, which I admit I love and enjoy reading, but to do that, you are dehumanizing what is happening now.

It’s not about the numbers, it’s about the people that make the numbers. Let’s not forget.
