There are literally hundreds, for some even thousands, of jobs we have no idea exist. When you are in one sphere of life, you don’t realize the jobs that support people’s lives halfway across the world.

Sometimes we may know that a job exists, but we have less than .001% knowledge of what they actually do in this job. Working for a company that partners with healthcare providers around the country, I’ve gotten to know so much more about the world of healthcare. It’s a vast field and I’ve just scratched the surface of what there is to learn, but even still my mind has been completely opened to what goes on in your average OBGYN clinic, Ophthalmology practice, Cronic Pain center, etc.

Recently, we have been partnering with more and more behavioral health practices. Behavioral health is a touchy business because of how important it is for patient information to stay private. Within all of healthcare this is extremely important but with behavioral health, there seems to be an extra level of caution around it.

Today I heard the story of my boss’s uncle who used to work in a behavioral health clinic. This specific story was about one of the patients (or, as many of these practices prefer to call them, “clients”). It wasn’t your average client. When working in behavioral health, you’re used to people doing things like attacking you for no reason. However, what you’re probably not used to is having people who have a black belt.

There were several times while this lady was in the care of this practice when she went full-on Jackie Chan. The people who worked there couldn’t get close to her without being taken out. They tried time after time to get to her to calm her down but they could get close. Eventually, they had to mad rush with 5 of them to tackle her and make her calm down.

Did you know there were jobs that did this?

There is so much that we don’t know about other fields of work and I have a deep respect for the amount of variance there is between every line of work.

It’s a diverse world out there and there’s always more to learn, no matter how smart you become in one field or another.
