One day, you may joke around with your friend to the point of personal attack. In the moment though, both of you are happy and laughing about the sarcasm.

The next day, the same jokes may land you with a punch in the face or even a broken friendship.

We can’t predict how others will take what we see, so I think there’s a reason that in Ephesians, God says:

“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” Eph 4:29

We can’t control how others perceive what we say, so what if we made it our aim to only say that which was edifying to those around us?
