The other day, I was thinking about what would happen in the company I work for if everyone was all of a sudden replaced by me. Like there were clones of me working in every area of the company.
At first, I was thinking of this as a positive. Thinking “I’m such a go-getter, if I just had more of me, I would be able to so much more easily communicate what I needed to get done and it would be done…”
But then as I thought through my idea further, I realized what a terrible idea this would really be. Not only because I know that I don’t like a lot of the things that the rest of my team does (queue analytics and billing). But also because I am not the best person for most jobs.
I fit really well into the role that I have, but even then, I am constantly pleasantly surprised at the ideas the other Account Managers under me have. I know for a fact that it would be worse off for the company if they had only me in all three positions.
Sure, there are aspects that might be done better. The areas that I’m strong in, but there would be a big giant hole where I’m weak. One of which is original idea generating. I’m great at arranging and brainstorming after someone already has an original idea, but I’m not good with the initial idea. This alone would be reason enough that it would be a bad idea to have only me.
I’m very grateful for the team that I have at my company and I’m very grateful that they are smarter than me in a lot of areas.
