There is nothing quite like a long and hard day’s work. It’s something that is completely exhausting, yet at the same time, one of the most fulfilling things you can do.

Most likely this is the case for both men and women, but I can only speak from the man side. It seems that especially for men, there is something fulfilling about using our hands for work, and even more so to create something.

I once told a friend that one of the things I liked least growing up was mowing the grass and that one thing I never wanted to do was own a lawn mowing business. He asked me “but don’t you love the feeling of being a man and taming the earth?”

I looked with a straight face and said, “absolutely not.”

However, I got where he was coming from. There is something special feeling about accomplishing something and being able to see the results of that accomplishment.

The most I ever felt this was when I was working construction. Seeing project go from beginning to end, and knowing the pieces that you put into it were pretty cool. The feeling of creating things is pretty cool. That creative process is almost made more special when you work your tail off for it. Because then it’s not just some accident that’s really cool, but you’ve put sweat and tears into making it what it is.

A hard day’s work is hard (I guess that’s redundant), but little is more rewarding.
