This post is part of my ongoing series of writing down my thoughts on the Bible passages I read each day. Some days I hope to have great insight that the Lord gives me, and many days, I will likely struggle through the text and not know what to write down based on what I read. My hope and prayer is that as I make this a habit, just as I did daily writing for so long, that I will improve on my ability to read and understand the passages I’m reading. Please keep in mind that many of these posts may be published late at night or with little time studying and simply be my first thoughts after reading. This is in no way a commentary that one should use to discern the Bible, but my own personal thoughts.

Feel-good stories.

David promises Saul that he won’t wipe out his line when he takes over the kingdom from Saul. It was customary that if there was someone who wasn’t family (and often even if it was) who took the throne from a previous person, they killed all of their family and everyone who could potentially even think they had a claim on the throne.

David does this less because of Saul, but because of his great love for Saul’s son, Jonathan. They had an incredibly special bond, and Jonathan had David promise on his love for Jonathan that he wouldn’t destroy the line.

Now, years later, there is only one of that house left, and it is a paralyzed son, who can’t contribute anything, yet David makes sure to treat this final remaining person in the line to 5-star service the rest of his life. It feels like a Make a Wish Foundation story.

Sometimes, in the midst of all of these tough stories, it’s nice to have a feel-good story.
