This post is part of my ongoing series of writing down my thoughts on the Bible passages I read each day. Some days I hope to have great insight that the Lord gives me, and many days, I will likely struggle through the text and not know what to write down based on what I read. My hope and prayer is that as I make this a habit, just as I did daily writing for so long, that I will improve on my ability to read and understand the passages I’m reading. Please keep in mind that many of these posts may be published late at night or with little time studying and simply be my first thoughts after reading. This is in no way a commentary that one should use to discern the Bible, but my own personal thoughts.

Desperate Times.

You really see the insanity of Saul in some of these chapters. Abiathar the priest helps David, not knowing that he is a “fugitive” from the king. Then Saul is upset by this and kills 85 people. The soldiers don’t even want to do this because they realize the insanity, but Saul makes it happen.

It honestly doesn’t sound too far off from people like Stalin who were insane dictators. If they felt threatened by anyone, they made sure they got dead. They didn’t let anything get in their way.

There’s a part where Saul is on the chase and about to catch up to David, but the city is getting attacked and he has to turn back. This is what stories are made of. He’s so committed to killing David (who did nothing wrong), that he leaves his own city.

Our own sin is a crazy thing that can take over us if we allow it to.
