This post was intended to be about a politician (from another country) I heard about who said some profound things about money. I was going to craft the post around him and how good a thing it was that he said…then I looked at the politician and realized he was 100% someone I would not want to support based on some of his other views and things that he has put in place.

It’s a pain in life realizing that there’s never going to be someone who you agree 100% on. I listened to a podcast with Charles Koch and Tim Ferriss about a year ago, and Charles Koch talked a lot about how in business, it was often important to find people, not who agreed with everything you ever did, but who were extremely good at one thing that you did agree upon.

One of the quotes I remember writing down from the podcast:

“Don’t apply too broad a requirement for shared vision – don’t only support and work with those who will support the kind of society you want

All we need is shared vision on a specific issue – and we may disagree on everything else, but if you can really help us advance this policy that will help people improve their lives, we’ll work together – Charles Koch on Tim Ferriss”

It’s important to know what you can and can’t work together on with people who have different viewpoints from you. Abraham Lincoln was famous for working with people who were extremely good at what they did, but were polar opposite from him in many ways. And look how successful the endeavors he set out on were.

Sometimes the best way to improve and feel stronger in what you’re doing is to have people to challenge you and question what you’re doing. You need people around you to support you, but you also should have people around you who are smarter than you in some areas so that you can all learn and grow together.
