At the risk of sounding like a hippie, it’s become much more clear to me over the last month how energy transfer works. Being an extrovert, but having slowly started becoming more of an introvert, I greatly enjoy being around people and often, in a small enough group feel like I am reenergized to do more after being around them.

I think I didn’t realize the full scope of this until the last two weeks or so where I haven’t been able to see anyone but family and my girlfriend. It’s amazing right now what energy even I get from being around them, but I can tell the lack of energy I now have compared to where I was at when I was around people much more.

It’s an interesting topic of discussion (in my mind at least) because I also understand and know that truly, our energy comes from the Lord. He is the one that sustains us. I also know that he did not create us to live lives alone without community.

Many have tried to start building community via online platforms by doing video calls, etc. But I’ve found that this actually drains me more than it energizes me. I always like the idea. “Let’s all hang out and get on a call together” sounds great, but then once I’m done with the call, I only feel the energy that I’ve expended on the call, I don’t feel a surge of energy coming back from the others. I have, on rare occasions, felt it, but more often than not, these calls, even for fun only drain me.

One of the things I was actually thinking about yesterday and today is that I actually need to get up earlier and spend more time with God. It was weird how matter of fact it was in my mind, but I thought to myself, I’m so tired and feel out of energy, I need to get up earlier and spend more time with God.

I believe God is the one who sustains us, and I believe that if we give Him our constant time and thoughts, he will fill us and supply us to continue the work that he has set for us.
