There are many people who are raised without parents. There are probably even more people who are raised by bad parents.

Parents often get the blame in the movies you watch. It seems it’s the dumb parents or the parents who are stuck in their ways and the cool kids who know what they’re talking about.

This evening, I watched the movie Forrest Gump. An odd movie to say the least, but it seemed like a classic, so since neither my girlfriend or I had seen it, we decided it was the first up on the list.

Apart from the movie being rather odd, one thing I was thankful for was the look on the parent figures. Forrest’s parent, a single mother, was a woman who truly cared about Forrest and making sure that he was able to do what he set his mind to.

Jenny, on the other hand, seemed to have a sexually abusive father. Now, who your parents are doesn’t always give you a key for exactly what your life will look like, but it is something that will affect almost every area of your life. For better or worse.

If you have a parent like Forrest did, who cared about him and taught him right, it’s good to let that wear off on your kid, if you’re a terrible person that no one should look up to, that’s going to have direct consequences on your kids.

The place of parents in everyone’s lives is so incredibly important. Even those who don’t have parents, those parents end up playing a huge part in how that child is raised and how they perceive life.

It makes me so thankful to have parents who want what’s best for me. They know of course that what’s best for me is to follow God with all my heart. They don’t just hope for that and for me to do well, they play active roles in praying, serving, and being part of my life.

I am abundantly grateful to have parents who care.
