Musings from reading a chapter of Hudson Taylor’s Auto-Biography. See other musings from books I’ve read here.

After being infected with the sickness, Taylor miraculously makes a full recovery. His faith and dependence on God is completely crazy to me.

In fact, I’m sure if he were a friend of mine today, I might tell him that he was crazy, or at least that he was unwise to test God so much. I have a feeling as I read through this book, this will come up often.

Taylor was so trusting in God that even in the midst of sickness, even in the midst of not having any money, he didn’t worry, but trusted that God would get him through if he wanted him to. In this chapter, the physician attending to him says that he practically leaves him as a ghost, and just after, Taylor trusted God to give him the strength to walk the two miles to try and get money that is likely not even to be there.

When those around Taylor start talking about how he needs to do something and Taylor knows he doesn’t have the money to do that thing, he doesn’t tell them that he doesn’t, he doesn’t ask for pitty, he doesn’t even feel bad for himself. He often just smiles, knowing that there is no way on earth that he’ll be able to do the thing the person is telling him to do.

What an astounding way to live.
