This is Part 21 of a weekly series on my growth and development at a software startup in Austin Texas. Click here to view the full series or start at Level 1.

Time Off.

Level Twenty One Stats

Weapons gained:

  • Connections + 2: This week I took off of work to visit home for one of my best friends’ weddings. I met quite a few people through this, but nothing super connected to work.
  • Ability + 4: Being able to seperate from work has actually been a difficulty. As I see the emails stacking up, I’ve been really intentional about leaving them for next week. This week needed to be off.
  • Knowledge – 2: I stand by if you’re not moving forward you’re moving backward. It was by choice this week, but I’m sure I have moved backward in my knowledge.
  • Discipline – 2: Once again, this is by choice taking the week off, but there was a serious lack of discipline.
  • Organization + 2: Keeping this at 2 simply because I helped plan my friends’ bachelor party and organized several things within the wedding.
  • Strength – 4: Terrible week for this again. I’m going to try getting better at this next week, but when I get back into Austin, I’m going to really kick it back into gear.

Kills: Cranked out a decision-maker meeting with my half day on Monday and set myself up for a restful but busy week away from work.

Deaths: Again, the lack of discipline and strength training is killer. I must actively work on improving this and may need to make some more specific daily goals for this soon.

Outside the Game

Wedding last night, rehearsal the day before, bachelor party the day before that, Ultimate frisbee tournament today and tomorrow, back at the work grind Monday. I’m going to be exhausted come Monday, but it will be a good exhausted.

Final Takeaways

I’m not looking forward to Monday. Not because I don’t enjoy my job, but because I know it’s going to be stressful coming back after a week off of reading emails and contacting people. Soaking up these last two days before then.
