I often like to ask the question, “what is your favorite memory/day from your life?”

It’s then been turned back on me multiple times and each time it seems I struggle to come up with a good answer.

What I’ve found is that almost everyone who answers this question answers with something very simple. Maybe a day they spent with someone or a group of friends around a fire. Maybe a time their family all together and everyone was happy catching up on each others’ life, maybe a time when someone had a random idea to go jump in a freezing cold river while camping and live with the consequences that would come.

Rarely do I hear someone say “a big vacation I took to Italy” or something along those lines. Even if it is something connected with a big event, it’s something simple. Maybe even something like the car ride to get to the place.

Many people have big dream/aspirations/desires, but it seems almost everyone looks back on the moments when things were simple that they love the most. Not the big sale deal that just went through, it’s the dinner you spent with your family that night that was memorable.

If we so often look back on these simple moments as some of our favorite times, why don’t we live in a way to try and have more of these instead of having the big aspirations for fame and glory?

No matter how much of a go-getter you are, I believe there is a drive (or maybe it’s called neutral in this case) in each of us that desires simplicity in life. I think you’re starting to see that in modern decorating. A simplicity behind it.

Some of my favorite memories from life are deep conversation I’ve had with others. Truly getting to know another human. Understanding the way they tick and think about things.

Lastly, “simple” does not mean “boring”. By living a simple life, you often take out much of the clutter that clogs your life into becoming boring. You can focus more on where you’re at and enjoy things for what they are, not what they could be.

My desire is to live a simple, yet adventure-filled life.

Well said! Love this post. Simple is so much better! Not a lot of distractions to clutter each day, or your time. Invest in people, not things.
    I am working on this.
