Day 16

This post is a part of a series on my three and a half week adventure road tripping to the west coast with three of my best friends in the Summer of 2018. I was challenged to write every day of the trip to document the adventure, so I did! My aim was to be as real and raw as possible while I was documenting and writing. Because of this, some days, I was honestly just not interested in writing, so I wrote very matter of fact “this is what we did.”

Check out the first part of the series here: Day 1 or check out a list of the days here: WCT2018

I wrote everything on my phone’s notes app, and below is word-for-word what I wrote each day. Nothing taken out, no elaborations.

As part of the challenge, I also made sure to take at least one picture every day, and each evening when I wrote, I picked one photo that I wanted to feature from that day. Some days it was hard to pick them, and other days I had only one to pick from.

A couple of notes: Each day that I wrote, I wrote the date, where I was writing from, and how many pictures I had taken that day. So the location doesn’t always reflect where the picture was taken.

August 6th
Oceano Campground - Pismo Beach California
Pictures taken: 21

To split up the drive between Monterey and L.A. we decided to camp at a place in between the two. We are driving down highway 1 the whole way, so we wanted to be able to take our time looking at cool things along the way. We had tons of people tell us we had to go to Big Sur, so on our way down towards Pismo beach, we stopped at Pfeiffer beach which is inside Big Sur! It. Was. Amazing! So, so beautiful.

We climbed up on the rocks around the beach, and I finally saw a dolphin. I think it was the prettiest I had ever seen the ocean. The white waves breaking as far as the eye could see. Rocks jutting out near the sandy shore, seagulls flying low to the ground, and dolphins just peaking out of the water. It was truly a beautiful movement in a beautiful place -- Not to mention, it was super fun climbing on the rocks!

Once we got to our campground here at Pismo, we made dinner quick and then went down to the beach to play Spikeball. We played till sunset, then we read some scripture, made some tea, and just enjoyed the peace. This is what I imagine vacation is.

This was I think the best sand beach we’ve been to. It was such fine sand, and it was a blast to play Spikeball on it. And it was also nice having a place that was a little warmer air temperature! The campsite isn’t our favorite ever, but it got us close to the beach, and we’re about ready to sleep. All in all, A very good day.
