This post is part of my ongoing series of writing down my thoughts on the Bible passages I read each day. Some days I hope to have great insight that the Lord gives me, and many days, I will likely struggle through the text and not know what to write down based on what I read. My hope and prayer is that as I make this a habit, just as I did daily writing for so long, that I will improve on my ability to read and understand the passages I’m reading. Please keep in mind that many of these posts may be published late at night or with little time studying and simply be my first thoughts after reading. This is in no way a commentary that one should use to discern the Bible, but my own personal thoughts.

Reading these chapters is so sad to me because you see so much potential and so much talent that seems to be lost because of sin that gets in the way. God offers to give us so much, yet we think that we know best. Even when God desires to give us something, we are too impatient to wait for His perfect plan and try to rush it. The results can often be catastrophic.

“But I have trusted in your steadfast love; my heart shall rejoice in your salvation, I will sing to the Lord, because he has dealt bountifully with me.”

This verse seems to encompass the sense of our entire walk as Christians. It’s not that we do something to earn God’s love. Instead, it’s because of His love for us and the salvation that he gives us that we worship and glorify Him.

“Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved.”

A truth to lean on. No matter what, God will be there. He will always take on our burdens. We simply have to cast them upon the Lord. So often we try to hold onto our problems.

I realize more and more, any issue and challenges that come up, we can separate ourselves from the issues and depend on the Lord. Not that we will have no problems in life, but we don’t have to focus on those. We can focus on the fact that God will sustain us through anything.

Over and over we see the stories of people who lose sight of God and focus on what their “needs” are. When we focus on what we think we need instead of just focusing on what God asks us to do. We are setting ourselves up for failure when we look to our own thoughts and desires instead of God.
