This post is part of my ongoing series of writing down my thoughts on the Bible passages I read each day. Some days I hope to have great insight that the Lord gives me, and many days, I will likely struggle through the text and not know what to write down based on what I read. My hope and prayer is that as I make this a habit, just as I did daily writing for so long, that I will improve on my ability to read and understand the passages I’m reading. Please keep in mind that many of these posts may be published late at night or with little time studying and simply be my first thoughts after reading. This is in no way a commentary that one should use to discern the Bible, but my own personal thoughts.

Unscientific Methods

All throughout the Bible, especially it seems the old testament, there are times where you just wonder if God had his people do things so weird they had to know it was Him who was behind it.

These chapters contain the beginning of God handing over many lands to His people – Israel. Because of this, there starts to be a lot of battles and fights. However, these chapters also contain one of the oddest victories that has probably ever been seen. It consisted of marching around a city 7 different days and playing trumpets and yelling. And wouldn’t you know it, that’s all it took to knock down the walls of Jerico.

This won’t be the last time that God uses unscientific methods to accomplish His will, but it is fun to see these things and wonder what must have been going on in the heads of the people who were following His commands. For as much as they rebelled and did stupid stuff, Israel certainly did have their moments when they completely surrendered to God and said “I’ll do it.”

Every time they do this, God does something really cool. What if we lived with that same attitude? Instead of in doubt questioning God all the time, what if we said, “sure God, I’ll do whatever you ask.”

Imagine how many cool things we might be used for then!
