This post is part of my ongoing series of writing down my thoughts on the Bible passages I read each day. Some days I hope to have great insight that the Lord gives me, and many days, I will likely struggle through the text and not know what to write down based on what I read. My hope and prayer is that as I make this a habit, just as I did daily writing for so long, that I will improve on my ability to read and understand the passages I’m reading. Please keep in mind that many of these posts may be published late at night or with little time studying and simply be my first thoughts after reading. This is in no way a commentary that one should use to discern the Bible, but my own personal thoughts.

It’s very interesting reading this chapter after reading the last few chapters of Numbers. Yesterday I was thinking about the difficulty in reading the passages that Moses had Israel wipe out all the older women and children in the land they were conquering. Yet in these first couple chapters of Deuteronomy, you see that God clearly does things for a reason.

He tells Israel when they can wipe out a nation and when they are supposed to simply go in and pay for what they need and leave. It’s all tied back to different promises that he made in the past to different patriarchs. People like Esau or Lot. God promised land to both of them and their offspring.

God has very specific ways that he sometimes guides us, and since we don’t have the eternal perspective, we must trust in Him to guide us
