This post is part of my ongoing series of writing down my thoughts on the Bible passages I read each day. Some days I hope to have great insight that the Lord gives me, and many days, I will likely struggle through the text and not know what to write down based on what I read. My hope and prayer is that as I make this a habit, just as I did daily writing for so long, that I will improve on my ability to read and understand the passages I’m reading. Please keep in mind that many of these posts may be published late at night or with little time studying and simply be my first thoughts after reading. This is in no way a commentary that one should use to discern the Bible, but my own personal thoughts.

It’s crazy the things that you may have heard almost your entire life and never realized where they came from.

Numbers 6:24-26:

“The Lord bless you and keep you;

the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you;

the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.”

This is a blessing I have heard probably hundreds of times, and for some reason, I always thought it was one of Paul’s prayers from the new testament, yet here it is from the old testament. What a beautiful blessing that God gave to Aaron and his sons to bless the people of Israel with. A beautiful saying that has probably been repeated by millions of people.

This is one of the coolest things of going through these old testament books. I’ll be honest, as I read through chapter 4 today, I almost got frustrated with how much I felt like the book didn’t apply to me, but then 5 felt more applicable and was interesting to hear some of these laws between married couples.

Then chapter 6 was mainly about this sacrifice that had to be made, so most wasn’t super applicable, but then at the end, boom, there is one of the greatest and most beautiful blessings that God give us.

There is gold packed inside the entire book, and if we search, we will find it, but we can’t give up when we first think that there isn’t anything there. His word does not come back void.
