This post is part of my ongoing series of writing down my thoughts on the Bible passages I read each day. Some days I hope to have great insight that the Lord gives me, and many days, I will likely struggle through the text and not know what to write down based on what I read. My hope and prayer is that as I make this a habit, just as I did daily writing for so long, that I will improve on my ability to read and understand the passages I’m reading. Please keep in mind that many of these posts may be published late at night or with little time studying and simply be my first thoughts after reading. This is in no way a commentary that one should use to discern the Bible, but my own personal thoughts.

Moses really came alive to me in these chapters. I feel you really see his humanity here. One of the most heartbreaking and also one of the most powerful displays of Moses’ love for the people of Israel is seen here in Ex 32:31-32. This is after the people have made this golden calf that they’re worshiped and God is angry at them, but Moses goes to God and say: “So Moses returned to the Lord and said, “Alas, this people has sinned a great sin. They have made for themselves gods of gold. But now, if you will forgive their sin—but if not, please blot me out of your book that you have written.”

In the past, Moses seemed mainly a stern fellow to me. He was scared to talk to the people in Egypt because he didn’t feel he was a great communicator. He always seemed like the very high up person who has a “holier than thou” attitude, but here you see him call out and say he would rather his life be blotted out from the book of life in order that Israel may be saved…and let me tell you, I am not to that level of love right now…maybe for anyone.

Paul was a human, just like you and me. Important factors to consider as you read.
