This post is part of my ongoing series of writing down my thoughts on the Bible passages I read each day. Some days I hope to have great insight that the Lord gives me, and many days, I will likely struggle through the text and not know what to write down based on what I read. My hope and prayer is that as I make this a habit, just as I did daily writing for so long, that I will improve on my ability to read and understand the passages I’m reading. Please keep in mind that many of these posts may be published late at night or with little time studying and simply be my first thoughts after reading. This is in no way a commentary that one should use to discern the Bible, but my own personal thoughts.

There was so much in the last 6 chapters of Job. I’m glad I’m now caught up on my reading because 6 chapters was too much to try and condense into a thought, so I won’t even try.

One of the biggest things that stood out to me at the end though was after God’s response to Job, then Job’s cry of repentance, we see such a happy ending in that Job’s friends who were not being very helpful get the anger of the Lord on them. “My anger burns against you and your two friends, for you have not spoken of me what is right, as my servant Job has.”

He goes on to tell them what they must do, which is exactly what Job asked for. I guess a sign that revenge really is the Lord’s, and anything that you wish to happen to someone if it really is deserving of God’s anger, will be much more severely dealt with by God rather than you.

Even righteous anger that we may feel toward those who malign the scripture or the truth of God’s name, in some contexts we are to call them out on that. But remembering that God’s wrath on them is so much greater than any “bad” thing we could wish upon them.

So, so much more in these 6 chapters that I can’t sum up. Everything from a possible ice age to one of the few references in scripture that refer to dinosaurs.

Back on to Genesis tomorrow!
