This post is part of my ongoing series of writing down my thoughts on the Bible passages I read each day. Some days I hope to have great insight that the Lord gives me, and many days, I will likely struggle through the text and not know what to write down based on what I read. My hope and prayer is that as I make this a habit, just as I did daily writing for so long, that I will improve on my ability to read and understand the passages I’m reading. Please keep in mind that many of these posts may be published late at night or with little time studying and simply be my first thoughts after reading. This is in no way a commentary that one should use to discern the Bible, but my own personal thoughts.

I’ve already fallen a bit behind in my reading plan, but I hope to make that up soon. Perhaps not tomorrow, but Wednesday or Thursday.

The biggest thing that stuck out to me today was in Job 21. Job seems to be crying out to God asking why do good things seem to happen for evil people? It seems that evil people are able to live relatively free from the guilt and pain that follows when knowing God and trying to do the right thing.

It reminded me of a passage in the New Testament during the sermon on the mount when Jesus says “so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.”

It seems important to me to realize that as a Christian, contrary to what prosperity gospel preachers may tell you, your life is likely not going to be butterflies and roses, and even worse than that, you’re likely going to see a lot of people who are unregenerate, unsaved people who it seems to have lives of abundance and blessing.

Take it from a guy like job who used to have everything…it’s not all that. Depend on the Lord Jesus Christ, for that is all that you need.
