I’ve heard statistics that talk about how the suicide rate in places where it’s more overcast and rainy are higher. For whatever reason, people who aren’t exposed to the sun as much seem to be more depressed.

These kinds of statistics leave me with more questions than answers. How do they know that it’s the weather that causes this, and not that the kind of people who are attracted to living in a place with that kind of weather, on average, are more likely to be depressed/suicidal? Do they know that it’s just the weather itself, or is it because the weather forces more people to stay indoors, which results in them using technology more, and that’s what causes the increase in depression/suicidal tendencies?

There are many variables in these statistics that seem to me to render them incomplete. They still tell you something, but maybe are only part of a bigger puzzle of how God has created humans.

These are completely random thoughts I just thought of, but they were spawned because this afternoon, my GMC group that live in the same apartment complex as me, all had planned to get together to play ultimate frisbee. When 4:00pm hit and rain seemed imminent, did we cancel our outdoor frisbee plans?

Absolutely not. We’re hardcore fun addicts, and we won’t be stopped by a little weather…even if it is 40 some degrees and raining. It was some of the most fun I have had in a while. Rain and all. In fact, it was maybe the rain that made it so fun.

I can understand how the statistics I mentioned above relate to people who are in a prolonged state of rainy and overcast, but I sure do love a good rain day every once in a while. It makes some fo the best memories.
