If you were given the option to only be able to read your Bible ever again or brush your teeth ever again, which would you choose?

People who don’t believe in the Bible probably wouldn’t have as much trouble deciding this, but those who are Christians might have a tougher time. Which would you choose?

Likely, if you actually are a Christian who means why you say, you would choose the Bible. Or at least I hope you would. But what would be your reasoning? Is it because it’s God’s word and literally the words that God gives us in order to live according to what he has commanded us?

If you said yes to being able to read your Bible over being able to brush your teeth, let me ask you another question – Why is it that you’ve hardly missed a day of brushing your teeth for the last 10 years, but you’ve rarely had a consistent Bible routine? If the Bible is the most important thing in your life, why are you treating hygiene like it’s the most important thing? You put deodorant on and brush your teeth every day, but it seems somehow Bible reading always gets pushed to the end and often forgotten.

Both are important, but if you can’t figure out how to balance your life to the point of being in the word of God every day, it’s time to remove some things from your life and make it a priority.

Joshua 1:9 “Do not let this book of the law depart from your mouth but meditate on it day and night so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.”

This doesn’t seem to me to be something that should be taken lightly. Meditating day and night is not a casual thing, that’s a life devotion kind of thing.

John 15: If you abide in me and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.”

Constantly coming back to the word of God is how we are sustained in our Christian life. Stop treating it like a burden or an extra thing. If we are not even spending time with our Father each day in His word, how can we expect to be able to fully surrender and abide in His will.
