The trend of new words coming into the language is a hard thing to figure out. Where did it originate? Was it actually said a thousand years ago, but it all of a sudden became popular because a certain person said it? Or someone said it in a certain way?

A game called “Among Us” came out recently and took much of the game-playing population by storm. The game is a bit like Mafia or Werewolf if you have ever played them. The difference being, in this game, it’s all on your phone or computer, and you actually use small little characters to run around and do tasks, or if you’re the imposter, you try and kill crew members without the other ones knowing.

When someone finds a body, they report it, and the whole crew meets via chat to discuss and figure out who they think is the imposter.

One of the phrases that has become extremely popular due to this game is a little abbreviation called “sus.”

In the chat, someone might say, “saw yellow running around looking sus.” If you’re playing the game on the phone, it’s hard to type because it stays in landscape mode, so people abbreviate everything they possibly can, suspicious happens to be one of the most common ones used.

People have been saying “sus” for generations most likely. Probably ever since the word suspicious was invented people were saying sus, but not until just recently did it become popular for the masses.

Who knows what the next popular word will be?
