You are reading this, wherever you are, you are doing so because there was a conflict avoided in 1962 that allowed your life to happen.

There are many people nowadays that probably don’t think about the fact that the entire world could be destroyed in one day. Apart from Jesus coming back, it’s also possible for humans to destroy the world.

In 1945, it was revealed the amount of destruction that could be done in a day, but by the 1960s, this was multiplied exponentially. Missiles had been developed and the bombs were hundreds of times bigger. When I say the world could be destroyed, I’m not exaggerating. Literally, the entire world, or at least the world as we know it could be destroyed.

The analogy I heard in Dan Carlin’s podcast was that it’s like in the 1940s through 60’s someone pulled a gun on every person alive and it shook them up. A lot. People didn’t know when could be their last day alive.

Now, people are born with a gun pointing at them. It’s like because they’re born with a gun at their head, they don’t realize it or live like it. That at any second, a country could start WW3 and the rest of the world would pay.

In 1962, this tension came to a head when the US found out that Russia had been sneaking Nuclear weapons and building missile sites on Cuba. The Cuban Missile Crisis.

We don’t think about the constant threat to all of life, nor should we. There’s no reason to live in constant fear, but it’s interesting to think about the instantaneous change a nuclear war would make on the world.
