Originally written in my paper notebook due to camping without service.

As I woke up this morning in my Hammock, I instantly forgot my desires from the night before. I told myself last night “I’m going to get up at sunrise, read my bible for a bit, take in the beauty of the sunrise, go for a run, pray, then read for a good chunk of the day.”

I set my alarm for 15 minutes before sunrise, it went off, I looked outside, turned it off and instantly went back to sleep. The best plans a night before completely dashed by the morning.

Eventually, after getting up, I started reading, but even then, my mind was so distracted. Trying to read one minute, then realizing I’m thinking of my future, my work, my girlfriend, and anything but reading the next minute.

This is why it’s important for me to have these times away from the city. Today, I have all day to pray and come before the Lord. Even though I am fighting distractions, by the end of the day, my mind has been in nature all day and has less to be distracted by.

If you find yourself not being able to concentrate on what you want, try getting out of your normal routines. It’s worked wonders for my mind, heart, and my soul.
