I grew up a city boy. Maybe didn’t have the big city life, but I certainly wasn’t a country boy. I’ve come to love the country and being out of the city, but growing up, I hated being in the country for more than a few hours at a time.

After several years of trying to gain skills that would be considered “country boy” skills, I still feel like I know close to nothing. It’s hard to balance the hat between country and city, though I think it’s easier for the country boy to move over into the city life.

This week, I’ve been balancing my day job (Account Manager at a software company) with fixing up a vehicle by night. It feels odd. It’s odd to be working on a computer all day, having meetings with clients, but then coming out of the room and realizing that you’re in the middle of nowhere Missouri on a turkey farm.

It’s amazing what different opportunities are open and available for so many. Even though I feel so unequipped to work on the vehicle in the evening, I have the freedom to do it. To have many interests, even outside of my occupation.

Wearing several hats is an opportunity that, if you get the chance, you should take and make sure you never take for granted.
