There are some days that you need to spontaneously do something. Sometimes that’s a spontaneous drive, maybe a spontaneous trip to get ice cream. Sometimes it’s a run.

These don’t often strike at the times we think they might. But when the moment hits, there’s not much that will hold us back. It’s compelling. It’s a very strong desire to simply do something. There may not even be enormous satisfaction in the thing you want to do, but you have a great desire to do it anyway.

Tonight I went on a nighttime run. I wasn’t sure why, but it just seemed like the right thing to do. It ended up being a beautiful Spring evening and a wonderful time outside. It was perfect for a run and it seemed like there couldn’t have been a more perfect decision.

Maybe these decisions aren’t always the best thing we can do, but my recommendation would be to follow these longings.

Along with experimentation, perhaps I’ll add spontaneity as another one of the spices of life.
