Earlier today, I saw a timelapse video of the construction of a giant ship. You enjoy the satisfaction of watching an empty bay turn into this enormous ship in the space of a couple of minutes.

I think this is often how we see other people’s lives as well. For the better or worse. We see the big progress when these other people are moving in their life or working on a project, but we don’t always pay attention to the dead time. When there wasn’t work going on.

It’s like we see other people’s lives like a timelapse and ours like a slow-motion camera.

We don’t always see the bad or stale parts in others’ lives or ministry. Sometimes there are huge gaps for them. Huge growing experiences that when you see in a timelapse don’t seem to big of a problem.

Not that we should be wishing for this to happen in other people’s lives, but it’s helpful to know as we live our own lives. Knowing that there are going to be some dead times. There’s going to be times of growing and progress and times where you feel like everything looks the same for months on end.

Don’t fall into the timelapse effect. Focus on building your own ship, one day at a time.
