I’ve been blogging daily now for just under 11 months. It’s been an extremely healthy exercise for my daily routine and one that I will cover more in-depth at a later time.

There have been many days that I’ve wanted to write something that I know I can’t do justice in one day’s worth of writing – especially because I often wait until I’m half asleep to write. I want to write all of my thoughts on the subject but I’m intimidated by the scope of the project.

I don’t know why it took me so long to understand this, but in my Praxis Monday call this evening, David Perell, a writer, podcaster, Twitterer, etc. gave great insight into my dilemma of wanting to write longer content but being intimidated by having to put multiple days into the writing.

“Write a bunch of mini-essays.” It was really that simple. I’ve been focusing so much on this “big piece of content like I have to write the whole thing and have the whole idea. While it’s good to have an outline, you can turn this long-form post into several mini-essays. Take the parts of your topic that you want to talk on and dive in-depth on each of these things. Work on tying them together, and just like that you’ve created something longer.

Goes back to the ol’ How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.

We can’t be so vague about our goals or the things we want to accomplish. The more vague we are the smaller the probability of starting it, let alone finishing it, becomes.

Make specific, small goals and with a little patience, you’ll be amazed at what you can accomplish.
