Sunsets and sunrises are one of the most consistent yet captivating things known to man.

Something that happens every single day yet still I am awed by the beauty of it. What else had this kind of a lifespan in the eyes of man? Ever heard your favorite song? Ever heard your favorite song so many times that it becomes the last sound on earth that you ever want to hear?

I don’t know that I’ve ever heard someone say that they’re tired of seeing the sunrise or sunset. It’s something that’s always beautiful and enjoyable to look at. I have found that we often start to take beauty like this for granted, but I haven’t found it to get to the extent that we actually are tired of it.

Even things like the ocean or mountains we can tire of, yet sunsets and sunrises seem untouched from this dislike. There are always a few that break the rule. Some that for one reason or another hate the sight of the sun peeking its head out from below the horizon. But these seem more due to life happenings in not wanting to start or end a day, not with the actual sight itself.

I’ve found for myself, that often my favorite part of a sunset is not the sunset, it’s 30 minutes after the sunset. The time after the photographers’ have long gone.

Those are the moments I love.

Maybe because it’s a part of the night under-appreciated. It’s not the climactic sunset, it’s not the crazy night for partying, it’s not the midnight conversation part. It’s the part between. The part that holds perhaps the most peace in it.

What other parts of life can we say we never tire of no matter how many times we experience them? There surely are some, but maybe none as shared world-wide like a sunrise and sunset.

Oh how ungrateful we are for something we can experience every day, no matter where we are in the world.
