If I said the name Mike Posner, would you recognize it?

I wouldn’t be surprised if you didn’t. For many years, he was known as a bit of a one-hit wonder with the song Cooler than Me.

Though he didn’t stop making music. He wrote songs for people like Justin Bieber and Maroon 5. A very talented guy.

His name went under the radar for quite a while after his big hit, but was brought to life once again with a song that would dwarf the success of his first song. What was the song? I Took A Pill In Ibiza. (Explicit!)

His fame exploded once again and he became a sought after artist.

But something happened.

His father died and the friend he talks about in the song, Avicii, also died.

Watch this video for the rest of his story.

To anyone who is chasing the American Dream. Anyone who wants to have fame and success. Anyone who thinks they just need some more money. Anyone who believes they’ll be happy if they just have the right girlfriend – Mike’s story is evidence that those things are not going to give you contentment in life.

A quote from the video

Interviewer: “What was it like to have so much fame and millions of dollars as a 23 year old?”

Mike: “It was the greatest gift in the world because basically all the things that I thought were gonna fill me up and make my experience of life better didn’t. I thought “Once I get this record deal.” “Once I get this hit song.” “Once I get the money.” Once I get the attention from the opposite sex.” Then I will feel better. …But what I realized was, I worked really hard, I attained all those things and I felt 0% happier, 0% more secure, 0% more comfortable in my own skin”

Fame, attention, sex, money — none of those things are going to bring you contentment. This is more widely understood these days, yet people still seem to focus on them.

I feel for Mike’s pain of emptiness. Unless he fills that with the God who loves him unconditionally and until he realizes that this is not his final home, he’s going to continue feeling empty. I’m excited that he is understanding that the only things that matter in this life are the eternal things, like other humans.

Mike is both an inspiration to others in the limelight, and an eye-opener to anyone who is pursuing it. There’s a price to pay for a life like he had and it doesn’t give anything return

I’ll part with a quote he mentioned in the interview. What an interesting guy.

“There’s never a good time to do what you want to do”

Invest in eternal things.
