This is Part 3 of a weekly series on my growth and development at a software startup in Austin Texas. Click here to view the full series or start at Level 1.

Unlike the first two levels, level three started out in the thick of the action. I had delivered the first touchpoint for my sales cadence in level one and I came out of the gate this level with the next step.

Not only that, but the first touchpoint was still feeding me work with emails to reply to and meetings to set up.

…And not only that, but now the meetings that I scheduled during level two were happening and I did not feel prepared for that.

Level Three Stats

Weapons gained:

    • Connections + 4: Ultimate frisbee brings people together, what can I say? Met 7 new people. On top of this, randomly met another Praxis participant and had great conversation.
    • Ability + 6: Made and recorded phone calls through Salesloft. Developed rough call script outlines for phone and voicemail
    • Knowledge + 8: Increased knowledge of our software. Enough so to do several mini demos and record several support videos for our support page.
    • Discipline – 2: Still consistently getting up by 6:00 each morning on weekdays but weekends are rough. Not utilizing them near as much as I should.
    • Organization + 4: Scheduled over 40 reminders after talking to clients to follow up with them in several weeks.
    • Strength + 2: Flat tire on bike restricted normal morning routine but still stretched and walked every morning along with Ultimate frisbee once a week.

Kills:

  • Scheduled over 25 meetings with clients to drive utilization of our platform
  • Created two support videos for our support page

Deaths:

  • Several rough calls with clients

Outside the Game

Watched a friend from Kansas play in the Rugby championships final four game.

Ate mediocre TexMex for $20 by myself.

My car was involved in a hit-and-run.

Final Takeaways

I’m starting to get into a groove at work. I still have a long way to go until I feel really comfortable with everything and get into a full workflow but in general, I’m starting to go around a turn where I can see the light way at the far end of the tunnel.

Some of the biggest things that I am working hard at right now is getting better at taking notes and being more organized.

There are so many things that would be so much easier for my current self to just not do. I could get so much more done. However, future self would actually murder me because it would be impossible to know what happened. Especially when dealing with over 150 clients, it’s unrealistic to think that I can remember everything that happened from ever meeting with all of them.

There has to be a good form of note taking and organization so that in the future I can continue right where I left off.
