Many people think that Ronald Reagan was just a puppet that was controlled by his staff, his wife, astrologers, and who knows who else. However, on my 6-hour car ride back to my temporary home in MO, I listened to “Reagan In His Own Voice.

I didn’t get through all of it, but what I did get through was amazing. Ronald Reagan did a radio show in which he had 3-5 minute sections every weekday and this was recordings of those along with commentary from some of the people closest to him.

He did the radio show in between his time as governor of California and president of the United States.

What many people didn’t know was that Reagan wrote every single one of those radio addresses. Most just assumed that someone wrote them for him, but the people closest to him made it quite clear that Reagan was the sole writer behind them.

Regan’s voice is so cool to listen to even now. I am so glad this piece of history was preserved for future generations to be able to listen to.

That is perhaps one of the things I love most about the innovation in technology. The ability to capture history in a way that allows you to experience it in a fuller form.

What intelligence or brain function Regan may have lost toward the end of his presidency will be a topic of debate forever, but it’s impossible not to listen to these radio addresses and not perceive Reagan to be one of the best communicators in our history.

The way that he explains incredibly complex subjects in the most common sense way shows that he must have had a much greater understanding of these topics than people give him credit for.

What an incredible mind we had in the White House. Not only in intelligence but in his care for the people of America and humans everywhere across the world.

Would someone like Ronald Reagan have a chance in an election now? Less than 30 years ago he was in office but the world seems so different from then.

There were probably 50 quotes that I wanted to write down, but here’s one I’ll leave you with.

“My belief has been strengthened that if government would someday close it’s doors, if all the bureaucrats tiptoe out of the marble halls, it would take the people of this country quite a while to miss them or even know they were gone.” ~ Ronald Reagan
