Day 21

This post is a part of a series on my three and a half week adventure road tripping to the west coast with three of my best friends in the Summer of 2018. I was challenged to write every day of the trip to document the adventure, so I did! My aim was to be as real and raw as possible while I was documenting and writing. Because of this, some days, I was honestly just not interested in writing, so I wrote very matter of fact “this is what we did.”

Check out the first part of the series here: Day 1 or check out a list of the days here: WCT2018

I wrote everything on my phone’s notes app, and below is word-for-word what I wrote each day. Nothing taken out, no elaborations.

As part of the challenge, I also made sure to take at least one picture every day, and each evening when I wrote, I picked one photo that I wanted to feature from that day. Some days it was hard to pick them, and other days I had only one to pick from.

A couple of notes: Each day that I wrote, I wrote the date, where I was writing from, and how many pictures I had taken that day. So the location doesn’t always reflect where the picture was taken.

Another driving day. Started out with a really nice breakfast that Mr. Lyons made for us and then we headed out from L.A. Our plan now was go to Grand Canyon via Hoover Dam, watch the sunset, camp outside the park, then watch sunrise tomorrow morning and head to Great Sand Dunes.

Things went pretty well. We left a little late from L.A. but we still got 30 minutes or so at Hoover Dam. Truly an incredible construction. Wish we had time to get a tour and stuff, but even without, it was still neat just to see it. I’ve done a little bit of Dam construction and learning on the subject, so it’s cool to actually see stuff and know what it is.

We got to our campsite here right about sunset, and we still had another 20 minute drive to the first lookout from the south rim, so we thought about just setting up camp and going for sunrise tomorrow, but we really wanted to see it. Especially Noah convinced us.

So we quickly got our reservation, then went and took a peak at the canyon. Even though we didn’t stay for too long, I’m really glad we went to see it tonight.

Afterward, we came back, made dinner, and now we’re once again ready for another early morning tomorrow! We are definitely getting better at setting up tent/food/personal stuff than we were at the beginning.

About time now that we only have two more nights of camping!
