Day 18

This post is a part of a series on my three and a half week adventure road tripping to the west coast with three of my best friends in the Summer of 2018. I was challenged to write every day of the trip to document the adventure, so I did! My aim was to be as real and raw as possible while I was documenting and writing. Because of this, some days, I was honestly just not interested in writing, so I wrote very matter of fact “this is what we did.”

Check out the first part of the series here: Day 1 or check out a list of the days here: WCT2018

I wrote everything on my phone’s notes app, and below is word-for-word what I wrote each day. Nothing taken out, no elaborations.

As part of the challenge, I also made sure to take at least one picture every day, and each evening when I wrote, I picked one photo that I wanted to feature from that day. Some days it was hard to pick them, and other days I had only one to pick from.

A couple of notes: Each day that I wrote, I wrote the date, where I was writing from, and how many pictures I had taken that day. So the location doesn’t always reflect where the picture was taken.

Surfing day! Today we finally hit the ocean with some boards! After making breakfast and chilling a bit at the house, we went to the beach for surfing lessons. It was good I think to have the initial help of knowing how, but honestly once we were in the water, it seemed to just be kind of a feel thing. Let me tell you though, I can already tell it’s addictive. I was riding some waves, but by the end, I was already wanting to ride bigger ones. I probably wasn’t ready for them, but I just already am wanting to catch bigger waves! It is definitely something that I plan to do again in the future.

After having our lesson, we kind of just walked around Venice Beach and explored. I’ll be honest, it was a little underwhelming. The beaches themselves were beautiful, and very wide open. One part up north towards Santa Monica Pier had like 60 volleyball nets set up! Looked like a blast. But the area behind the beach, like Muscle Beach and whatnot were just not what I expected them to be. Not even sure what I was expecting, but it just seemed kind of trashy. The more beaches I go to, I’m feeling that I am definitely more of a mountain person. I do love a beautiful beach, but the people just don’t seem as much my style.

When we got home, Mr Lyons got the whole fam and us Stonefire Grill! It. Was. Delicious! Definitely the best meal we’ve eaten this trip. We are pretty wiped from being in the ocean today, so we’re hoping to get an early night and early morning tomorrow!
