Day 15

This post is a part of a series on my three and a half week adventure road tripping to the west coast with three of my best friends in the Summer of 2018. I was challenged to write every day of the trip to document the adventure, so I did! My aim was to be as real and raw as possible while I was documenting and writing. Because of this, some days, I was honestly just not interested in writing, so I wrote very matter of fact “this is what we did.”

Check out the first part of the series here: Day 1 or check out a list of the days here: WCT2018

I wrote everything on my phone’s notes app, and below is word-for-word what I wrote each day. Nothing taken out, no elaborations.

As part of the challenge, I also made sure to take at least one picture every day, and each evening when I wrote, I picked one photo that I wanted to feature from that day. Some days it was hard to pick them, and other days I had only one to pick from.

A couple of notes: Each day that I wrote, I wrote the date, where I was writing from, and how many pictures I had taken that day. So the location doesn’t always reflect where the picture was taken.

August 5th
Folly Foot Frolic Hip Camp- 15 miles east of Monterey
Pictures taken: 13

We had seen a church while we had been driving through downtown Monterey the last couple days and we were really wanting to visit a church or two during our trip, so we thought this was as good a time as any.

The church was called Monterey Church. They have a church both in Monterey, California, and Monterey, Virginia. Kind of an interesting idea. It is cool having believers in all parts of the world to be able to worship with. It’s a family that you simply don’t know yet. After church, we explored Point Lobos, a really pretty wooded area south of Monterey, near Carmel. It was good, but I think all of us are a little burnt out on all these little hikes and Stephen especially is fighting an injury with his knee.

Our main plan today was meeting with some friends of Jed’s parents. Two little old ladies named Kathy and Trisha. They have brain injuries that cause them not to be able to stand light or movement or other things, so they pretty much spend all their days inside. This seems like a boring life, but let me tell you, I have never seen the joy of the Lord come out so clearly in people before. They were so content in where God had put them. We had a great time talking to them and seeking their wisdom...and after dying all day from not being able to eat In-And-Out, we finally got some on the way back to our camp.
